Current

Tuesday, 20 November 2012 (beginning desanguination)
9:13am

I've been going riding most mornings (and sometimes in the afternoon as well), but the weather is very ugly, so I'm going to use that as an excuse not to.

Tomorrow, Marta and I head to Sacramento for Thanksgiving. She's staying at my place tonight so we can head out early-ish tomorrow.

Monday, 19 November 2012 (the mourning dream)
12:01pm

And the Star Trek convention article, including highlights of the David Gerrold interview, is up. I don't think it turned out quite as well as the oft-referenced Everfree Northwest article, but it'll do. (The editor did take out the punchline to one of my jokes, making the build-up to it kinda awkward. Alas.)

3:06pm

Got both of the things that were due today submitted, and I'm now trying to make headway on school stuff. It doesn't help that I'm feeling both bored and anxious, and over the usual things: life, money, work. The basics.

sometime after midnight

Stayed up later that usual watching things (Justified and more) with the Goldies. Hanging out with friends does help with anxious boredom.

Sunday, 18 November 2012 (what to do with the information)
2:42pm

Spent most of the morning working on the convention article, and I'm now heading to Marta's to spend a few hours with her before I head off to Bad Movie Night.

The pictures that I sorta helped to faciliate from the convention yesterday are up, with my article getting a "See Also" lnk. That's sweet

sometime after midnight

Because they never do, the huge crowds that turned out for KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park last week did not return for the Footloose remake. No reason why they should, I suppose. I'm now staying up far later than I ought in order to enter my convention article into the system.

Saturday, 17 November 2012 (the double standard)
12:01am

Spent most of the morning transcribing the David Gerrold interview, and now I'm about to sit down and watch one of the two movies I've suddenly been assigned to review. Feast/famine/feast.

11:49pm

Spent the evening with Marta and her mother, including braving the rain for what turned out to be rather unpleasant experience at Ful Moon Thai Bistro. Back home now, second weekend night in a row.

Friday, 16 November 2012 (an abhorrent vacuum)
9:04am

Slept horribly last night, probably because of the rush of adrenalin from learning that the interview will be happening. Whee.

Meanwhile the sci-fi news site Topless Robot is currently between editors, and since they're owned by the Voice Media Group, they're reprinting articles from other Voice outlets for filler, including my article on Star Trek conventions. I don't care for how they changed the title to make it look like I can't do basic arithmetic— the article is about thirty-seven years of conventions, not twenty-five—but that's not up to me. It's just another reason to not read the comment section.

10:01am

On the weekly itself, an article I wrote about a Twin Peaks remix show at the Vortex Room is up. KrOB and I currently have plans to go to it after the convention, but we'll see how that goes.

11:59am

I'm outside the Westin St. Francis, waitng for KrOB to arrive. The sleep-derp is kicking in, hard. This'll be an adventure.

3:45pm

So far, so good. The interview was with David Gerrold, screenwriter of "The Trouble With Tribbles" as well as the book of the same name about the making of the episode. The book is responsible to a significant degree for both my love of reading nonfiction and my desire to write it, and Mr. Gerrold was very gracious with his time. Transcribing the interview is going to be a daunting task, but that's the biz.

Meanwhile, I got a semi-frantic email from the Senior Web Editor of the Voice Media Group, asking if I can put him touch with a convention media person in order to arrange for a professional photographer to come tomorrow. He added: i will owe you big time!!! Dunno how I'll collect on that, but I intend to try.

5:56pm

I would be happy to go the rest of my life without hearing another William Shatner impression.

8:03pm

Neither KrOB nor I have the energy to make it to the Vortex Room tonight, so we're instead enjoying dinner at Hana Zen Then, the long trudge home in the rain begins. Normally I'd be with Marta tonight, of course, but her mom is in town, plus there's the whole "not spending every Tuesday / Friday / Saturday night together" thing, so.

sometime after midnight

While KrOB and I were in Powell Station waiting for our respective trains, I was approached by my friend and NakedSword coworker Tor. We both got laid off on the same day, and were pretty much best friends there and vowed to continue hanging out, but of course it didn't happen. I've always felt bad about that.

At least I recognized Tor. I was also approached by someone I didn't recognize but who recognized me, a regular at the spin classes I used to attend at the Y. She told me how much everyone there misses me, and she got my email address so's she could invite me to a "Ladies of the Y" tea gathering. I do believe this the first time I've ever been invited to a tea party. Neat. Almost made up for the fact that there no N Judah train because of construction, so I had to take a shuttle bus from Church Street. Horrors.

Thursday, 15 November 2012 (for which it stands)
8:44am

The podcast of last night's Nose Hair Lint Gland is up. I play a lot of Nurse With Wound, as well as Orson Welles, just because it makes me laugh.

3:12pm

My pitches for the cat website keep getting shot down. I guess that's not going to be steady source of income after all.

10:51am

I'm taking a quiz in my Cataloging and Classification class, and if this were an actual in-person class, I would probably get up from my desk, walk up to the teacher and say question 30 is invalid, because bob dylan's blonde on blonde is not a "folk-rock' album." So it's probably just as well that it's an online course.

11:27am

Well, that was fast. I'm now approved to start seeting The Nice Lady again, for the first time since April 2005. The cost is a mere three dollars per month through Healthy San Francisco. Povery does have its advantages.

8:12pm

Ilene came over this afternoon to get caught up on the new season of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, and though I normally go to KrOB's tonight to watch Jerry Lewis movies, I'm staying home to get caught up on my work. Normally it's stuff I would be doing tomorrow, but I will indeed be going to the Star Trek convention (with KrOB accompanying me), so, gotta get ahead of the curve. Also, it's looking like I may get to interview a hero of mine. It's still up in the air, and if it happens I'll be happy but terrified, but if it doesn't happen I'll be sad but relieved. One of those situations.

10:53pm

Yep, it's happening.

Wednesday, 14 November 2012 (parts of a different body)
4:31pm

Marta and I have found a queer therapy collective thing that looks promising for us, and I'm currently buncing around the Healthy San Francisco phone system, looking specifically into solo therapy. Maddy tells me that The Nice Lady is still in business, so she's my goal.

Also, a shorter piece I wrote about the Trek convention is now in the Night + Day section print version. It's still neat seeing my name (spelled correctly!) in ink.

sometime after midnight

KrOB and I co-hosted Pete's radio show tonight. It was much fun. I do miss radio.

Does fighting about who we'll go see for therapy qualify as ironic?

3:24pm

And article in which I try to put this weekend's upcoming Star Trek convention into a historical context (and that's never a good idea) is up on the weekly. If all goes well, I'll be attending as well.

Monday, 12 November 2012 (solo or self-directed)
8:45am

Currently working on four pieces of the weekly, one of which is for the Night + Day section in the print version. So, there's still work. Just not Pony work.

1:32pm

I'll bet that even after all these years, Kool-Aid employees still occasionally have to say, "That wasn't us in Jonestown. It was Flavor Aid. Look it up."

11:21pm

Went to Pete and Sarah's to watch Justified, as we will on Mondays. Pete asked me to guest-host this Wednesday on his Radio Valencia show Nose Hair Lint Gland. Neat.

Sunday, 11 November 2012 (a different hue, a new tone)
10:32am

...and maybe it's just as well that I won't be covering the show for the weekly anymore, given the noodelty that often shows up elsewhere on the page, which is distasteful to many fans of the show. And to me as well. Sometimes—not always, not often, but sometimes—the prudes have a point.

sometime after midnight

The KISS Army came out in droves to Bad Movie Night for KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park, creating a standard that the rest of the month (or year) can't possibly expect to live up to. Still, it's nice to get a full house every once in a while.
