My Face for the World to See (Part II): The Diary of Sherilyn Connelly a fiction
|
Monday, 10 September 2012 (the visibility of her face) 7:58pm Doing some work at Mission Creek Cafe before going to Pete and Sarah's to watch Justified. Mission Creek is exactly the same as it ever was, which is kinda reassuring in a way.
Sunday, 9 September 2012 (palindromic) 2:14pm Spent most of the morning doing fun, fun maintenance-type things, including spending way too much time "chatting" with a Comcast "representative" about the fact that my Internets were down (after an hour of that, they finally said that, hey, there's an outage in my neighborhood!), and then Marta and I took apart he Roomba in order to clean it so it start picking up things from the floor again. As I say, fun stuff. Sushi for lunch at Yum Yum Fish almost made up for it. sometime after midnight Slight dropoff at Bad Movie Night for the first half of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers compared to last week, but still better than we've doing on average in recent months. So.
Saturday, 8 September 2012 (the perfect moment) 9:16am At Cafe La Flore, hand-editing the Dancing on the Ledge manuscript by hand. I've had the copy-edited version since July, and I've been well aware that it's needed a lot more work beyond just the things the copyeditor noted, but I haven't felt emotionally prepared to deal with it until now. (The fact that the publisher kinda dropped off the face of the planet for a while there also helped.) Normally I'd have just gone home to work while Marta's at her Saturday class, but I'm going to Japantown at noon to cover a sumo event for the weekly so I reckoned I might as well stay more in this part of town. I'm clever like that. Plus, it's actally less noisy here than it tends to be at home on Saturdays. So. 2:13pm After the sumo thing, I returned to the Inner Sunset and had lunch at Howard's Cafe, where the waitress asked if I was Scottish, seeing as how I was wearing a kilt and all. Okay, world. Fine. I get it. I won't wear plaid skirts anymore.
Friday, 7 September 2012 (pushing midnight) 1:38pm Just got Phoebe back. It was pricey, as these things always are. Now heading to Marta's. 7:42pm Messy Ethiopian comfort food at New Eritrea. Both Marta and I need it, because we're both on the verge of losing our shit for various reasons.
Thursday, 6 September 2012 (joining the organization) 8:12am Got very little sleep last night, barely four hours, which is too little sleep even for me. And I'm now taking Phoebe to the mechanic, both for regular maintenance and this new sound her engine has been occasionally making. Those are always fun. 1:37pm The noise is stemming from her water pump, and she's going to be staying overnight. I could theoretically pick her up right now and bring her back tomorrow morning, but I'd rather get it over with. Granted, it means I'll have to take the Muni downtown for the John Cage concert at the SFMOMA that I'm attending with KrOB, but taking pulic transportation builds character. Or something. 2:45pm I'm told there continues to be interest in the book (and, by extension, interest in me writing about it), and meetings are being held. So many meetings, so far away and disconnected. 6:31pm ...aaaaand the sleep-dep starts to kick in. I may wind up being the first person in history to nod off during 4'33". 9:47pm KrOB never showed up, but I enjoyed the show, and the Muni trip was not especially traumatic. Now, I hope, sleep.
Wednesday, 5 September 2012 (hands off, down) 5:46pm I've finished all my schoolwork for this week, including those pesky quizzes and such. Plus I aced them, which is nice. It's also been a goofily busy day for me on the weekly, in that three articles of mine went live in a short period of time, including my first (and hopefully not last) for the music blog about the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, as well as the the piece that Marta and I were researching by eating ramen the other night. I also have a couple things in the print issue, including a piece about a particular Fringe show, and a whole page of my own in the Fall Arts section. So that's neat. I'm not going to have anything in next week's print issue, but still, three issues in a row isn't bad.
Tuesday, 4 September 2012 (not looking back) 11:33pm New post up on the weekly, about shows that I think look neat at this year's Fringe Festival.
Monday, 3 September 2012 (empty landscape) 9:16pm Marta and I did more blind bag shopping this afternoon, checking the numbers to make sure we got the ones we actually want (only The Mane Six, natch), then had dinner at Old Jerusalem, where we talked about possibly going to The Big Fresno Fair next month. Maybe. Or not. There's no telling.
Sunday, 2 September 2012 (another green world) 9:13am A mass email from one of my professors about a quiz we took this week reminded me that, derp, I took the quiz but forgot to actually submit the damn thing. Once again, I've screwed right out of the gate of the semester. Thankfully, she's going to let me submit it late with no penalty, but jeez, I have to be smarter than that. sometime after midnight Much to my very pleasant surprise, we got a big crowd of mostly newbies at Bad Movie Night for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, and they all stayed until the end and had fun. Whew. Here's to hoping the experiment (of doing these particular, beloved movies) holds out for the rest of the month.
Saturday, 1 September 2012 (circumference of a circle) 6:53pm After going shopping at Target for practical things (and discovering, for better or worse, the existence of Pony blind bags), Marta and I are at Kirimachi Ramen in North Beach. It's research for an article, it is. 8:16pm Now having tiramsu at Caffe Greco. It is not for research.
