Wednesday, 29 February 2012 (you greet her ghost)
9:06am

My recaps of episode 7 and 8 of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is up. The responses to it have slowed from a trickle to nonexistent, but I'm going to keep doing them anyway.

3:53pm

Since Raphaela isn't doing her Pilates class tonight, I'm instead going to a class at the YMCA called Bodyworks: "Body sculpting and core strengthening workout. Utilizes hand weights, resistance tubing, stability balls and rollers." Sounds good to me. And a lot less expensive overall than driving to Pacific Heights, parking, paying for tea and dinner at The Grove Fillmore, all that.

6:45pm

That went well, I think. I sweated a lot, to be sure, and it moved really fast so I wasn't always quite sure what I should be doing at any given moment, but I managed. I felt very much like an interloper when I arrived and claimed my space, since it was clearly once of those classes with ultra-regulars (hey, I used to be one of those in other classes!) and I was the weird-looking interloper. Thankfully, one of those regulars was an old friend from bootcamp, the girl who'd organized the wine bar gathering back in June. When she saw me this evening, she broke into a huge smile and said SHERILYN! oh, i'm so happy to see you! and we hugged and talked until class started. Her mother was with her, oddly enough, and she (her mother) insisted on a hug. Sure, why not? Anyway, it was great to have a friendly face in the class, and hopefully that validation made me a little less scary to everyone else. This may be my new Wednesday night thing.

Okay, whew: the marketing guy is letting me double my workload, and thus double my payload (is that the word)? That's going to help me to keep my head above the water for a while longer, and it won't cut significantly in my school-and-other-responsibilities time.

11:13am

Got asked to do another SFSI gender panel thingy. I have respecfully declined.

Meanwhile, the house's hot water heater has stopped working. My landlord is on the job, and not for the first time, I'm glad to live where I do, where I can actually reasonably expect repairs to happen promptly.

1:54pm

Received my very-automated "Notice of Unemployment Insurance Award" letter yesterday. Maximum Benefit Amount: $0.00. Weekly Benefit Amount: $0.00. The whole thing is full of zeroes. The system works! (And, I expect I'll be getting a followup letter soon, no doubt scheduling a phone interview.)

2:13pm

Heading to Marta's.

The Golden Gate Xpress writeup of Bad Movie Night is now online. Am I a self-declared film lover? Oh yes, I do declare it to be so, and that's why I'm going to see Steven Soderbergh's Kafka at The Vorex Room tonight. Plus, the movies at The Vortex Room are frequently put on by friends of mine who are also Bad Movie Night regulars, so I have no excuse for never having been there before.

2:19pm

Uh-oh. I may have asked the publisher the wrong question about the book. Well, I'm a rookie, so I might as well make rookie mistakes, right? Right.

10:24pm

I'd forgotten how much Soderbergh's Kafka wanted to be a Coen Brothers film, probably because I haven't seen in since 1990.

If I'm going to eat too much of anything over a weekend, it might as well be fantastic asian food, which is why I'm having dinner with Porter at Mission Chinese Food. So very good. And we're discussing the logsitics of getting to Everfree this August, which is going to happen, largely thanks to Porter's generosity.

sometime after midnight

Totally fun Bad Movie Night this evening. A fair number of people showed up for X-Men: First Class, and we were all just on. It's nice when that happens.

It's a beautiful day, by all accounts. I imagine I'll probably find out when Marta gets out of class.

4:25pm

Yep, it is! Marta and I are at the De Young, which is part of our "not working after she gets out of school today" initaitive. It's working (as it were) so far.

6:17pm

Dinner at On the Bridge in Japantown, since I've been craving their Okonomiyaki Pizza, but that's only because it's the most delicious thing ever. It's probably on the fattening side, but goddamn.

There has been a steady stream of loudmouthed bros—one leaves, and another takes his place—but they ain't gonna ruin the deliciousness.

sometime after midnight

Worked from home all day, then left around nine in the evening to go to KrOB's to resume our Jerry-festing, specifically his newly restored 1959 made-for-TV remake of The Jazz Singer. We also watched a documentary on the restoration, and one of the people interview (a son of Jerry, in fact) mentioned Jerry's vast archives of film and videotape. Oooh, I hope it's still there when I get my degree! (Because I'm sure it'll be as simple as that.)

Thursday, 23 February 2012 (moon on the land)
10:39am

Went to San Francisco State University to pick a copy or three of the Golden Gate Xpress with the article about Bad Movie Night. It's a great writeup, and my name is even spelled correctly. Can't beat that.

6:17pm

Just received the contract from the publisher for Meet on the Ledge. Meep. Guess it's time to start compiling the damn thing, huh? I haven't signed the contract yet, since the publisher assured me that they're flexible about adding clauses and whatnot, so I'm going to ask for cover approval. Not that I expect they'd go in that direction, but I don't want to have another Femmethology on my hands. It's a great book and I'm proud to be in it, but the cover thoroughly icks me out, and I need to make sure the first book to bear my name has artwork I can be proud of—or, at least, not revolted by.

Wednesday, 22 February 2012 (sometimes i forget you've gone)
10:11am

Marta and I returned to the Black Light District last night, and after I dropped her off at the bus stop, I did some erranding. While at Trader Joe's, I ran into a friend from the Stonestown YMCA, one of the older women who'd always been extremely friendly to me. The first thing she said was: sherilyn! you've lost weight! Me being me, I take that as a win. Also, the new Pony recap is up.

2:34pm

Finished the quiz! I think I may even get 100% on it, especially since I finally figured out the answer to that one question was "prolfieration problem."

6:39pm

Or not: the professor gave us some hints on certain questions, and though I did get "proliferation problem" right, I got all the others wrong. That's unsettling.

At The Grove Fillmore, and from here I'm going to Raphaela's final pilates class. That's also unsettling.

9:21pm

Oh, thank goodness. The class is continuing in March.

11:35am

Doing a quiz for 202. We have until 11:59pm on Friday to complete it, and it's open-book by definition, but it's still hard to shake the feeling that I'm cheating.

3:24pm

At Marta's, and the new Dirty Three album is streaming on NPR. Can't complain.
