Current

Friday, 20 August 2010 (threshold)
3:40pm

At a going-away party in the office this afternoon, one of the interns told me she loves my hair, and that when she first saw it, she knew this was going to be a good place to work. As we were talking, I overheard somebody I didn't recognize—a board member, I think—whisper conspiratorially to someone else, is that sherilyn? I guess word has gotten around.

I think this is the first day that I've been in full makeup here. Not that much, just foundation and eyeshadow and eyeliner (which I wear most of the time anyway) plus lipstick. I was struck by the mood to be pretty, and it's important to obey moods.

sometime after midnight

Dig me, I've been up for twenty-two hours! Been a while since I've done that, though getting up at four helps.

Thursday, 19 August 2010 (i heard ramona sing)
10:11am

Wow. I really, really liked Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. A lot. I expect I'll try to see it a couple more times in the theater before it goes away. And now that I've seen it, I can finally start watching the trailers and playing with all the various online marketing doodads which I'd been avoiding. Including making my character avatar, because I'm a grownup and that's what we do. (The pink is as close as I could get to the actual pink of the squid.)

Did my usual two hours at the gym this morning, and Marta's left for work, so it's time to get writing. I have a lot to get caught up on, including the pr0n review.

5:15pm

And, of course, another hour at the gym in the afternoon, because it's also what we do.

I don't fit back into my plaid skirt yet, the one which in February of last year I actually had sewn smaller because I was shrinking out of it, but I will eventually.

Wednesday, 18 August 2010 (it's getting boring by the sea)
12:56pm

A woman at the gym rather sheepishly told me that seeing me there all the time has been an inspiration to her to keep coming back. I'm glad I could help, unconsciously or otherwise.

Marta and I are going to see Scott Pilgrim vs. The World later today. There aren't many directors who can lure me to a first-run movie these days, and Edgar Wright is one of them.

Tuesday, 17 August 2010 (nothing to add)
8:36am

Back at work. I know I'm just a part-time independent contractor with no property or territory rights, but I hate coming into the office and finding that someone else has been using my computer, especially since I lost all my Firefox tabs as a result. Feh.

On the plus side, I have a meeting later this morning with the new guy to further discuss my new responsibilities. I've got a good feeling about it.

1:52pm

The meeting went well, I think. He seemed impressed by my existing knowledge as we went through the site (one of our ancillary projects that I should have been involved in with but never, because my former supervisor chose to keep me out of that loop, evidently feeling that it's my own fault if I don't have access to information), and frequently said good question!, which is a positive sign.

Going to the gym again after work, because it's Tuesday and I can.

7:12pm

Hand-laundered my shiny pants (which I almost but don't quite fit back into). They needed it in a big way. I've been trying to remember if they're the same pair I wore in the Black Mass in 2006. I'm not sure, but it's entirely possible.

sometime after midnight

Guns!

Monday, 16 August 2010 (a real western story)
8:12am

Worst turnout in months at Bad Movie Night for Hitman. They can't all pack 'em in, I suppose.

This morning at the gym, however, one of the regulars in the abs class told me that I look like I've lost a lot of weight. Hooray for external validation, especially from a fellow addict.

And now, to take Phoebe to the mechanic for a checkup.

5:56pm

Spent a couple hours at Judahlicious working on a couple stories while Phoebe got attended to across the street. Afterwards, I came home, had lunch, crashed for an an hour or two, then heading for today's second gym visit. Priorities!

Sunday, 15 August 2010 (wiser heads prevailing)
11:19am

The new-newly restored print of Metropolis was great, and the audience (consisting largely of very old, quiet cinephiles) was much more respectful of it than they were last time. So hooray for that. Dinner at El Majahual was good, if a little hampered by the half-dozen or so very loud children at the table next to us. (Marta and I are bad people who don't generally like being around children. Hence us being bad. Good people like children.) The pupusa reminded me how little cheese I eat anymore—the last time I had cheese was on the camping trip a few weeks back, and then in Las Vegas before that. Otherwise, it's something I try my best to avoid. Which is probably one of the reasons my old pants are starting to fit again.

I also don't drink much alcohol anymore, which might be why the orange creamsicle at Amnesia hit me as hard as it did. I didn't feel especially drunk, but the as the bar filled up, it felt increasingly stuffy and lacking in oxygen. Weird. At Pete and Sarah's, I declined the traditional glass of wine and bowl of popcorn I usually have while I'm watching stuff with them. The little things add up.

Saturday, 14 August 2010 (overwhelmingly so)
10:11am

Spent the evening at home last night, since I've spent enough money out in the world these past few days. Went to the gym this morning to do an hour of weights and an hour of cardio, and I'm going to The Castro this afternoon to see the new restored print of Metropolis (even more restored than the last time I saw it, evidently). Then I'm having dinner with Marta, we're going to see her friend Lizzy read in Bang Out at Amnesia, and then we're heading to Pete and Sarah's to watch The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Dig me, I'm being social!

But first, a quick and entirely necessary nap.

Friday, 13 August 2010 (...and back down again)
3:53pm

Spoke more with the new guy today. He seems really enthusiastic to get me working on his projects. I admit that it stung a little when he got hired full-time after a few months when I was being kept as a part-timer, but I'm way over that now. He appreciates my skills and wants to put me to work, and that's a good thing.

Thursday, 12 August 2010 (picture of her work)
7:32pm

Marta stayed over last night, as she does on Wednesday nights, and this morning after I got back from the gym, I drove her to Kaiser so she could get blood drawn. It was one of the fasting tests, where you can't eat or drink anything for however many hours beforehand, which (along with the fairly large volume of blood they removed) probably accounts for why she lost consciousness after the needle was removed. I'm glad it was after the needle was removed, and I'm glad that she'd decided to wait until I could be there with her. It was a little bit scary—not because I believed she was in real danger or that there would be lasting damage, but because it's just plain scary when the girl you love passes out due to blood being removed. The phlebotomist was very kind and helpful, and we moved Marta from the phlebotomizing station to a private room across the hall so she could recover in there. Thankfully, they didn't rush us at all, and before too long she was back on her feet.

What was originally going to be a coffee run afterward turned into breakfast at Boogaloos, followed by bits of erranding. Realizing that we kinda wanted to stay out in the world, so we went to the Randall Museum for a while, then walked up to Corona Heights, seeing as how it was right there and all. We then tried to make it to Mount Davidson Cross, but were stymied by our inability to figure out how to get into the park. So we returned to the Black Light District, had lunch, and napped for a couple hours before I drove her home.

I'd originally planned to go out again this evening, well after midnight with Pete Goldie to drive far out of our foggy City to see the Perseids meteor shower. But we've both decided we're too fatigued, and besides, it would mean I would miss going to the gym tomorrow and surely be late to work. Priorities and all, one of them being fitting back into my shiny pants (or possibly acquiring a new pair) before my upcoming gigs, or at least the ones in January. Gotta keep doing my planks in the morning for that to happen.

Wednesday, 11 August 2010 (river of water of life)
11:12am

I've requested a meeting with the higher-up and the new guy to follow up on the discussion next week, to get the ball rolling wherever it's gonna go. Dig me, I'm being proactive!

1:42pm

That went well, I think. I printed out my resume just in case, since the new guy doesn't really know anything about me or my work history. He seems enthusiastic to have me start working with him, which makes him a distinct improvement over his predecessor, who essentially hired me then abandoned me. But at least the abandonment involved keeping me on the payroll, and for that I'm grateful. But I'm even more grateful that I'm finally getting the opportunity to move on. Moving on while staying at the same desk, anyway, which is what I'd been hoping for. (I like my desk.)
